ZANITA WHITTINGTON: the interview

Zanita Whittington
x
Zanita Whittington is with Viviens (Australia), Models1 (London), Modelwerk (Germany).

PONY RYDER: How did you start modelling?
ZANITA WHITTINGTON:
I started when i first finished school when I was 17. Modelling was just something I really wanted to do. I've always been fascinated with the fashion industry and I felt like modelling was my ticket in.

PONY RYDER: What are the obstacles that a new model has to deal with?
ZANITA WHITTINGTON:
The biggest is definitely self confidence. When young models start out they are usually pretty unsure of themselves, its a very competitive industry and you have to have thick skin to take all the rejections that come with casting.
x
If a client is going to pay thousands of dollars for a model to represent their product they'll usually want a beautiful and confident young woman. Being slim and pretty only plays a part and projecting an image is something that new models take time to learn.

PONY RYDER: How do you maintain your skin?
ZANITA WHITTINGTON:
Having good skin is especially important to me because my skin used to be terrible and I had to visit a dermatogist to fix it up.
x
Nowadays the sweaty business of regular physical exercise is the best way for me to make my skin glow. I use Akin intensive moisture anti-oxidant complex, Seba-med cleanser and always try to take off make-up as soon as I'm done working.

PONY RYDER: Do you have a beauty secret?
ZANITA WHITTINGTON:
Using a steamer on your face regularly is a great way to have a natural glow and get rid of spots.

PONY RYDER: How do you stay in shape?
ZANITA WHITTINGTON: I usually do cardio, running and classes at the gym, 4-5 times a week. Eating well is important and finding a good balance, I still like to treat myself occasionally.
I've seen so many girls using starvation as a method as a way to lose weight and its so bad for you, especially long term. You can't have the energy to live a fulfilling life if you don't eat anything!

PONY RYDER: What would you advise to new models?
ZANITA WHITTINGTON
: Be pro-active, work hard and believe in yourself. If you really want to model then you have to commit to learning from each job and casting and working with your agency to find the best career direction suited to you.

if modelling is already this tough and hard for a newcomer like Zanita, (maintaining body weight/good skin/exercising), i wonder what those top girls do to keep them competitive.

Thanks for your comment pony! btw, i wonder what makes you think that i am mysterious?? lol

I totally agree with Zanita when she says that models look fraragile and gentle, but in reality they have to have really thick skin, so they can handle the industry and the competition.

Her name is totally recognisable, and she will definitely have no problem bein' noticed!

On the last picture, she totally looks like Sasha Pivovarova, I love her!

PR, do I sence a new section coming to life on your blog?

GREAT WORK!!!!

I wouldn't say that she looks like Sasha, but the fact is that she does look like a high fashion model. She has all that is necessary for that.

And Pony i really love you and your work on the blog :)

Lovely! The photographs in the plaid shirt and tie look fantastic. Annd, the camera and kit was all from eBay, they seem to have a lot of people selling old vintage slrs. And you can pick them up cheap because they usually sell them as an attic clearance saying 'i don't know anything about photography' :)
