THANA KUHNEN
the Queen
Thana Kuhnen is with Way Model Brazil & Marilyn NY
Marilyn show card
PONY RYDER: Thana, tell us more about how you started modeling? Is it true that you’ve never considered being a model?

THANA KUHNEN: Since I was a child, everyone has asked and commented about my long legs and as I was growing, people talked more, more and more!! Friends, family, people on the street, beach, school, supermarket... everywhere… all different kind of people of different ages.. came to me to complain, asking the same things! All with the same horizon.. "You need to be a model"
I never wanted, never dreamed or even imagined...It was quite hard, it took a long time for me to fall in love with my work...as I was already discovered by scout...and I didn't even want to talk with them, my family convinced me to do a book, photos to keep at home... with that, straight from the studio to my current mother agency, they called me - this photographer/scout, for an appointment in Sao Paulo!
At this point, I only know how much I enjoy and I am proud of all of this!
I really dedicate my life to my career!
Ph. Glynis Selina Arban
PONY RYDER: Did you have problems with language when you first started?
THANA KUHNEN: All kinds of problems, haha I did not know anything at all..
Ph. Glynis Selina Arban
PONY RYDER: When you started, you had longer hair. Who decided on the makeover?

THANA KUHNEN: The first step was from Marilyn-NY ... but in the end we decided all together...that it was really hard to me, I can say it was one of the biggest sacrifices I made for my career.
PONY RYDER: Who was the hair stylist who cut it?
THANA KUHNEN: The stylist who signed the style was Jimmy Paul.

PONY RYDER: Is it easier to maintain shorter or longer hair?

THANA KUHNEN: I learned over the time how to play with my short hair.. I learned to like, I love hats, strips, little ponytails on top of my head...My only requirement was to keep hair in front of my face, not to go so short.. it is very important for me to feel feminine. I don't have a favorite brand, I try to change enough so that my hair does not get used to one type of product!
Christian Dior S/S 10 Paris via TFS (Inaya)

PONY RYDER: I think it was surprise for everyone when you walked out first at the Christian Dior show. When did you found out about the opening spot?

THANA KUHNEN: I started my career in Paris with Dior, I worked with Galliano and the entire team of Dior approximately 2 months before the show, every day.. that collection was all done on my body...I could not imagine that I would open the show, I found out at Dior, the night before the show!
x
PONY RYDER: Were you surprised?
THANA KUHNEN: It was a mixture of happiness, surprise, responsibility and a feeling of tension! I was just beginning!
PONY RYDER: Which show did you like more, Dior Pret a Porter or Haute Couture?
THANA KUHNEN: I really love both, but I have a special feeling with haute couture, that I can't explain, I believe I have that inside of me, this "acting" that naturally comes all over me, during a couture show!
Christian Dior via TFS(á la Balenciaga)

PONY RYDER: First show and you already had a “complicated runway” – the stairs. Going down the stairs at the Dior show, and posing… You seemed so confident and full of authority! It seems that it was more about acting then modeling.
THANA KUHNEN: I understand, but that does not scare me, I had so much support from all that team, and I know I was there because someone up on top of that stairs had trust in me, waiting for the best result!
welovemodels & caras.com.br via TFS

PONY RYDER: What do you like best about Brazil ?THANA KUHNEN: First what I like the most is the energy of the Brazilian people... You can have fun in every single place in Brazil!!
PONY RYDER: How often can we find you on the beach?
THANA KUHNEN: I loooove the beach, it is my favorite place ever, I was actually made in the beach. On a summer trip of my parents! ha-ha The beach is one of the first places I go, as soon as I'm in Brazil.
PONY RYDER: AWESOME! Lol. And do you use sun block?
THANA KUHNEN: I use La Roche Posay for face, I use Banana Boat oil when I want to get a tan, and L'Oreal for sun block!
made in Brazil blog
PONY RYDER: Who is your favorite Brazilian Designer?

THANA KUHNEN: We have many talented designers in Brazil, I cannot name only one!

PONY RYDER: We know, we know... But where do you shop most often there?

THANA KUHNEN: I love Alexandre Herchovitch, he has this cool style, those structured pieces which I find very interesting... and my closet is full of Osklen pieces..he has everything from beachwear with a really cool style to the nicest leather jackets and the sexiest dresses.. he can dress you up in all occasions.
Jean Paul Gaultier F/W 10.11 Paris via TFS nils

PONY RYDER: How do you spend your time during long flights..
THANA KUHNEN: I fall asleep even before the plane lifts off...hahah

PONY RYDER: You travel a lot so… Which airline is your favorite?
THANA KUHNEN: I really don't care about that, I can't see much difference between one and another.

PONY RYDER: When you are in Europe or USA …is there any food or product that you miss, because it can be bought only in Brazil ?
THANA KUHNEN: Sure, but I do not have anything in mind right now!
PONY RYDER: Maybe food? What is your favorite Brazilian dessert?
THANA KUHNEN: I don't like sweets so I actually always skip dessert and I jump right to coffee time!
Nathalie show card

PONY RYDER: What brand of skincare you use?

THANA KUHNEN: I use different brands, but what I cannot be without is the Midnight secret from Guerlain.
PONY RYDER: What is inside your make up bag?

THANA KUHNEN: Normally I do not really use makeup ... I take special care of my eyebrows. What I got with me in my kit is a Givenchy mascara and a Dior skin Nude Glow that I'm using at the moment...and a lip balm of course that is always in our pocket! :)
Nathalie show card
PONY RYDER: You are in a perfect “couture” shape. What type of exercise do you do?

THANA KUHNEN: I walk a lot, which I like..Gym (soooome times) and body combat class!

Anne Combaz

PONY RYDER: For the end… Thana can you recommend us some music by some of Brazilian musicians as well as a Brazilian films that we should watch.

THANA KUHNEN: I love it...I spend all my days listening to music somehow! I have a passion for music....Brazil has many many styles and types of songs...and I love it all...but one of my favorite ever is Cassia Eller. Movie? Cidade de Deus. ;)

CARLA GEBHART: the interview

Posted on: 2010/03/24

CARLA GEBHART

the IT girl

Carla Gebhart is with Civiles Argentina & Viva Paris

civiles via TFS

PONY RYDER: Tell us something more on how you got into modeling?
CARLA GEBHART: I was scouted by Picky Courtois, the director of Civiles, my mother agency.
I was just 14 years old, studying in second year of high school. He met me at modeling school in Cordoba, my hometown, where I used to do my first practices of modeling. It was in mid 2008.

Prada

PONY RYDER: What are the basics that you needed to learn in order to become a model ready for the fashion capitals?
CARLA GEBHART: The first thing I needed to learn was how to survive healthy, in front of such big stress, that means collections season. I also had to learn to stay away from home, far from my family and friends.

Civiles via TFS

PONY RYDER: So, if you had to describe to an average girl how to walk on the runway, what would you say is the most important thing?
CARLA GEBHART: I feel that the most important thing is to feel that she's just doing a job, that it doesn't become YOU in a really special person just because you're thin and tall. So if you don't act that kind of a role, it could be easier to do it.

Chanel

PONY RYDER: Do you like runway music..does it help you in setting the mood?
CARLA GEBHART: Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. But anyway, it's a part of the show, so it's not my business to like it or not. Sometimes it helps to walk easily on the runway.

PONY RYDER: Which show had the best music?
CARLA GEBHART: I loved Chanel's show music. I'd also loved Yves Saint Laurent, Gareth Pugh and Prada.

PONY RYDER: What music do you like?
CARLA GEBHART: I love minimal music. I also love jazz, and classics from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. My favorite bands at the moment are Arto Lindsey, Beck & Radiohead.

Cerutti

PONY RYDER: You appeared on every important show this season! Who did you like wearing the most?
CARLA GEBHART: I liked most of the shows I did. Chloé, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Prada, Jil Sander and Gucci were veeeery nice clothes. Also liked Gareth Pugh and Cerruti.

Burberry Prorsum

PONY RYDER: You also walked for Burberry Prorsum! Did you prefer over the knee boots or those ankle ones?
CARLA GEBHART: I loved the knee boots!

Gucci

PONY RYDER: Which show (2010) describes your personal style?
CARLA GEBHART: I feel that the shows I did don’t really describe my personal style, but as I mentioned before: I loved Chloé and Gucci.

PONY RYDER: Did you prefer black or white look at Gucci?
CARLA GEBHART: The black one.

Julien MacDonald

PONY RYDER: And what is your personal style?
CARLA GEBHART: My personal style is very natural…

PONY RYDER: Where do you buy for your clothes?
CARLA GEBHART: I buy clothes in vintage stores… I love vintage.

PONY RYDER: Which store are your favorite jeans from?
CARLA GEBHART: Rapsodia (in Argentina), Levi’s, Miss Sixty. I also love Dior Homme jeans.

Chloe

PONY RYDER: Models always carry big bags with them! Whats the brand of your travel bag?
CARLA GEBHART: I carry a big bag from home, to spend a few weeks in Europe. It's Samsonite, I think they are great, really strong and have nice designs.

PONY RYDER: What bag do you take for castings...and what's in it?
CARLA GEBHART: To the castings, I use Chloé's bag. I take the city map, my mobile phone, my passport, some money, compcards and book... I also have my bikini (just in case I need it for a job), and my high heels from Gucci.

PONY RYDER: You looked amazing at Chloe! Are those earthy beige colors something you would wear yourself? What are your favorite colors?
CARLA GEBHART: Blue is my favorite color. Chloé gave me a lot of clothes and bags… so beautiful…! I could wear every color from that collection, it’s great!.

YSL

PONY RYDER: So, you’ve been to NY, Milan, Paris & London. Do you see yourself living in one of these places?
CARLA GEBHART: I haven’t been to New York yet. I loved Paris, I think I could live there. It’s a beautiful city. I also loved London, but the food is not so good… : (
Milano was OK to my mother, she always travel with me, and she loved the food and the Italian people, because they reminded her of our family.

PONY RYDER: Your home town is Cordoba..? What do you love about it?
CARLA GEBHART: My home town is Cordoba. It is one of the most important cities in Argentina. I love the food and the weather, it`s always good.

civiles via tfs

PONY RYDER: Are you maybe a vegetarian?
CARLA GEBHART: I’m not vegetarian! I love meat!

PONY RYDER: And do you like chimichurri?
CARLA GEBHART: Chimichurry is the best for the “asado”, our version of barbecue.

PONY RYDER: What Argentinian dish is your favorite?
CARLA GEBHART: My favorite dish is the barbecue, also pasta and salads.

PONY RYDER: And there is this “special” kind of tea or … the way you make it… isn’t there?
CARLA GEBHART: Regarding the “tea”, the name is “mate”, it is an infusion, it’s very famous in our country. But I’m not a really big fan of it.

civiles via tfs

PONY RYDER: Tell us a part of your beauty secret!
CARLA GEBHART: I have no secrets… I just live my life in a happy way… good food, lovely family, nice friends... I think that’s the secret everywhere.

PONY RYDER: How do you maintain your skin?

CARLA GEBHART: I don't use creams or any special treatment.

PONY RYDER: Did you get any advice backstage about make up or skin?
CARLA GEBHART: Natural skin is better. Especially if you have good skin.

Balenciaga

PONY RYDER: What is your favorite perfume?
CARLA GEBHART: Any perfume by Comme des Garçons.

PONY RYDER: Do you use make up?
CARLA GEBHART: I don’t use it!

civiles via tfs

PONY RYDER: And now that you know the fashion world a bit better, do you think you will have new friends from the fashion industry?
CARLA GEBHART: I hope to do it! If I don’t, I’ll be alone for the rest of my career…! In my first trip, I made some friends from Argentina and Brazil. I also made a very good friends of my mother agent, and with my agency in Paris.

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA

The Eye Catcher

Anastasija Kondratjeva is with NY Model Management &Vacatio (Riga)

NY model MGMT show card

PONY RYDER: How did you start modeling?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: I went to the agency when I was 16, and now it’s my mother agency Vacatio.

PONY RYDER: When you think back, at your very beginning as a model, do you see the progress you made in the way you pose?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: FOR SURE… trust me, you don’t want to see my very first polaroids.

Ph: Matt Irwin Vogue Russia December 2009

PONY RYDER: LOL. OK OK, so then what is the hardest thing for you as a new model?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: For me it was quite stressful to go to new cities, for example NY because it’s so big, as my city Riga is hundred times smaller that any capitals cities of fashion, but when I came I understood that there is nothing terrible, girls in model apartment help and agencies always make you feel comfortable

Ph: Matt Irwin Vogue Russia December 2009

PONY RYDER: Of all the fashion capitals, which one do you like the best and why?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: NY and Paris….I love NY because it’s so busy, big and completely different with all the cities in Europe, but in Paris it feels more relaxing for me.

PONY RYDER: OK, so where can you find the best croissant in Paris?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: Haha… croissants… It’s special thing to talk about. But I enjoy Japanese food more.

Chanel Couture via TFS

PONY RYDER: Which shows do you like doing more: couture or pret a porter?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: Nooo, it’s hard to choose between couture and pret a porter, the same as choosing between shows and shooting. Couture shows are amazing and the clothes, when you look at them in your mind there is just one question: How? How do the designers do it?
PONY RYDER: Of all the runway looks which one did you like the most?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: Creative shows with some unusual things on the runway, shows which make people surprised and make them say WOW!

S Magazine #10

PONY RYDER: What is your personal style?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: Personal style - I like simple - simple clothes like jeans with shirts, T-shirts, for the summer it’s kind of skirts, sometimes dresses. And I LOVE jackets and of course comfortable shoes. The colors - I choose dark (black or brown) or white, or I also enjoy myself in green or blue. So, as you can see, I like all the colors and I think they all look good if you know how to combine them.

PONY RYDER: And what is your favorite picture of yourself?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: Haha, I like backstage pictures when I don’t know that someone is taking photos of me, it’s funny to see yourself doing something from the side.

N°21 - Alessandro Dell'Acqua F/W 10.11 Milan, style.it via TFS

PONY RYDER: What is your beauty routine?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: Because of all the traveling and changing climate zones I have to take care of my skin - it means giving the skin some time to relax from make up, putting a lot of moisturizer.

Daks Fall 2010 London via TFS (vogue.com.uk)

PONY RYDER: Do you miss your long hair?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: Maybe I miss my long hair just a little little bit, but I had naturally long hair for so long, so now I’m just looking happy in the mirror when I have extensions - full of dreams)))

PONY RYDER: Do you use any special products for you hair except shampoo?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: Shampoo is never enough for hair, I have to put lots of conditioner and also masks to keep my hair looking good.

Thakoon FW10 via TFS (lisandwich)

PONY RYDER: Do you use make up?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: Actually, I never put make up on because I want to let my skin relax between shootings and shows, but the one thing I can’t live without is lip balm.

PONY RYDER: What did you learn from make up artist you’ve worked with?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: Fashion is full of useful things. Also, there are a lot of things to learn from make up artists… when your make up changes a few times a day, you just start to understand the correct way to put make up. Skin care is very important.

NY model mgmt show card

PONY RYDER: How do you stay in shape?

ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: I don’t have a special diet, I’m just trying to go to the gym as regularly as I can, also yoga, but there are 2 times per year that also help - fashion week, when you run a lot.

Ph: Matt Irwin Vogue Russia December 2009

PONY RYDER: Tell us about your friends in the fashion world.

x
x
ANASTASIJA KONDRATJEVA: Oh, I can’t forget the girls I lived with in model apartments. Specially Uliana Tikhova who I live with in Milan and Paris and Elena Lomkova, Masha Philippova who I live with in NY. We try to keep in touch. When we meet there’s always so much to talk about, so many news- a few hours is not enough.

Andrei Andrei is with NEXT NY&LA, MP London, Trend Barcelona, VN Greece, MC2 Miami, Future Milano.

PONY RYDER: Andrei Andrei. Is it real or is it your art name?

ANDREI ANDREI: Yes, Andrei Andrei is my real name and I think that my parents thought it’s a cool name and I agree with them, it’s easy to remember…and, of course, I’ve heard all the jokes related to that.

PONY RYDER: LOL. Andrei, how come you started modeling?

ANDREI ANDREI: First I started on a very low level in my home town with a local agency. My friends were pushing me to go and I finally did …after that we went to fashion week, we had an exclusive show for an underwear brand and an agent from Bucharest saw me there and took me under his wing …and did my first professional test shooting, sent me to Thailand and from there I started the international work.

PONY RYDER: And what were you like as a kid?

ANDREI ANDREI: I don’t think I was popular, geeky for sure. I used to study a lot and went on Olympics and stuff....

I didn’t find the use of sport either. During the last years of high school, when I find out that girls are attractive I started to work on my appearance more and did football for about a year and started working out.

PONY RYDER: We can’t believe you were a “fat kid”. Are you sure?!?

ANDREI ANDREI: Yeah, I was :) And everybody in my classroom at school was making fun of it, and that annoyed me a lot. I started working out because I had friends that went to the gym and they were looking awesome. And I knew I could look better than anyone I know.

PONY RYDER: How do you feel about doing nude photoshoots?

ANDREI ANDREI: I don’t mind doing nude as long as the photographer is good and knows what he is doing.

My trick is getting in the role that the whole concept is build on and you have to know your body, study it, your angles… you don’t wanna stay in a position that disadvantages you. My preparation started when I first stepped foot into the gym so I don’t really do anything before the shooting.

PONY RYDER: Which gym is your favorite?

ANDREI ANDREI: California Fitness as I remember was really nice in Singapore.

PONY RYDER: Tell us about your workout routine.

ANDREI ANDREI: I started going to the gym when I was 16 and it was hard work until the muscles developed and I had 15 kg more than I have now with minimum body fat.

I started loosing weight for modeling because I couldn’t fit into the clothes and it was that period when skinny models were making all the big campaigns. Now I’m just working out at home and maintain my body, especially with a proper diet and some cardio outside, like running or skipping rope and exercises in the house …I do that almost every day.

PONY RYDER: How much (kg) do you lift on the bench?

ANDREI ANDREI: In my good days I was lifting 110 kg on the bench, now I could do maybe 80-90 I haven’t tried it in a long time. So I’m not sure :)
x
x

PONY RYDER: How long does your training last?

ANDREI ANDREI: About one hour normally, or I can do like 20 minutes 3 times per day.

PONY RYDER: Do you have to maintain definition all year long, or do you have a period when you just work on your muscle mass?

ANDREI ANDREI: Yes, I stay in the best shape all year long …My goal is not to gain mass , it is to have the perfect body.

There is no point in gaining fat and mass and then to rip it for the one month of summer like most of the people I see. My point is that you can gain mass and look in shape all the time.

PONY RYDER: Do you also do a lot of cardio?

ANDREI ANDREI: Every cardio exercise is good for your body… I don’t have a routine, it all depends on where I am and the weather outside. Like when it’s cold or raining I usually skip rope at home.. and if the weather is good, I go outside and run.

PONY RYDER: Do you do a lot of exercises for legs and butt?

ANDREI ANDREI: Not really, the running and the bicycle and the rope skipping work these muscles and not only these.

PONY RYDER: You know I ask this because I just found out that you have an insurance policy for your “butt” ? Why...

ANDREI ANDREI: It expired last year. I had a butt insurance worth 5000 euros when I won the contest for the perfect ass in the world. I mean, I wouldn’t insure my ass on my own for sure, especially because there is not much that can happen to it.

PONY RYDER: Let's repeat. When you first started going to a gym your goal wasn't to lose weight?
ANDREI ANDREI: NO
x
PONY RYDER: It's about keeping the shape you have?
x
ANDREI ANDREI: YES
x
PONY RYDER: So what does an individual who goes to the gym have to eat to look like you?
x
ANDREI ANDREI: I guess it’s all about when to begin and when to stop. You can play with the shape of your body in whatever way you want. You just need to have a little discipline.

PONY RYDER: Do you avoid carbs?

ANDREI ANDREI: There are 2 types of carbs - the good ones that give you energy for a longer period of time and the bad ones.

PONY RYDER: What do you eat for breakfast?

ANDREI ANDREI: Usually I eat cereals (all grain). Avoid cereals that say “fitness” or other bullshit … read the label.

PONY RYDER: What other type of food do you avoid?

ANDREI ANDREI: Fried, fast food, whole meals, butter, high fat products, cookies and sweets, but not entirely.

I don’t live to enjoy the food that I’m eating, so I try to eat because I need to, not for pleasure.

PONY RYDER: Name 3 things that can seduce you?

ANDREI ANDREI: Smell, Attention, Shape

PONY RYDER: What do you think what are your strongest features...

ANDREI ANDREI: I think sexiness.

PONY RYDER: I’m sure everyone wants to know… Are you taken at the moment?

ANDREI ANDREI: NO
